Once Upon a Time: Sunbeam Suncity, Varanasi Pathways World School, Gurgaon
‘Once upon a time’: A virtual storytelling collaboration was hosted by the Sunbeam Suncity School, Varanasi on August 7. The event brought together all budding writers and storytellers to share their narratives with their peers. Vaishnavi Mishra and Lavani Pradhan from MYP 1 participated in the event.
The event focussed on the theme of folklores passed on from one generation to the other, which are traditions that enrich our roots and keep our ethnicity intact. Students wove words together beautiful folklores from their respective cultures and inspired creativity and imagination in others through their stories.
The collaboration aimed at discovering and rediscovering the cultural roots of different regions along with understanding and celebrating their belief system.
During the course of the day, students narrated a short value-based story using props, paper puppets or voice modulations for different characters and students shared many folklores that had been passed on to them and then narrated it to the participants present on the zoom call.
Ms. Sangya Ojha was the Keynote speaker for the event. She is a puppeteer, voice artist and actor from India. She performs Aanchoo, Raya, Elmo and other characters on Galli Galli Sim Sim. Ms Ojha shared some unique storytelling tips and narrated a brilliant story titled "Panchatantra: The Sun and The Wind" through puppets and a video which inspired students to narrate their stories using the tips and tricks shared.
It was a wonderful and inspiring session for students to appreciate the similarities and differences of various regions across the globe. This collaboration helped students to discover and rediscover the cultural roots of different regions, belief systems, learn about different ways of storytelling, understanding the values of each story and imbibing them into our daily life.
