An IB Diploma result is reported out of 45 points. Students earn up to 42 points from six subjects, each graded on a scale of 1–7, with an additional up to 3 bonus points awarded for combined performance in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE). Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a compulsory requirement for the award of the Diploma but does not contribute points.
The IB uses internationally benchmarked grade descriptors rather than percentage marks. A score of 7 represents exceptional performance against rigorous global standards, enabling universities worldwide to compare student achievement consistently across different education systems.
The IB Core comprises Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). While TOK and the EE together can contribute up to three bonus points towards the Diploma score, all three components are compulsory and develop research, critical thinking, reflection, leadership, and community engagement—skills that universities highly value.ed grade descriptors rather than percentage marks. A score of 7 represents exceptional performance against rigorous global standards, enabling universities worldwide to compare student achievement consistently across different education systems.
A strong IB score reflects far more than examination performance. It demonstrates a student's ability to think critically, conduct independent research, manage a demanding academic workload, and communicate effectively. These are the very attributes that prepare IB graduates to succeed at leading universities and in an increasingly interconnected world.
Universities worldwide recognise the IB Diploma for its academic rigour and holistic approach to learning. Admissions teams typically consider the overall Diploma score, Higher Level subject performance, course selection, and the student's broader profile—including personal statements, recommendations, and extracurricular achievements—when making admission decisions.
