‘Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything’ – George Bernard Shaw
On Friday, 22nd April 2020, the Middle School students celebrated Earth Day by sharing their perspectives on ‘carbon footprint’ during an online Debate session. Carbon footprint is the release of carbon dioxide and numerous other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to human activities. Several concepts were addressed by students and vigorous discussions about the same were conducted.
At 8:30 a.m. sharp, the usual F.T registration lesson began on Zoom. Each student was eager to deliver their one-minute speeches to their classmates. What started as a friendly discussion, turned into a platform for one to express their strong opinions on the topic. Numerous ideas as to how digital carbon footprint can be averted were brought out. Additionally, teachers added on to the conversation and efficiently supervised the debate session. Multiple students had different point of views, and this is what made the debate special.
Furthermore, shortly after the debate, form groups came together and came up with ways to hinder our carbon footprints. With the blend of creative minds, some ideas could truly bring out change for the better.
Concludingly, the Earth Day Debate for Middle School 2020 was a successful platform for students as well as, teachers to express their opinions on environmental disorders. It generated awareness for all about how to reduce their digital carbon footprints in this time of on-going lockdown conditions, when the world is depending so much more on Digitalization.
