MYP Student Council Elections March 6Pathways World School, Gurgaon
On the 5th of March, Middle School held its Student Council Elections for the year 2019-2020. All the candidates were excited to discuss their ideas and communicate directly with their peers.
After the audience settled down in the Panini Auditorium, they were addressed briefly by the Student Council Mentor, Ms Harsimrat Kohli, and the Grade Level Coordinator for Grade 9, Ms Kavita Govil on the true meaning of leadership and representation. As both teachers rightly explained, in a true democracy, ‘each voice counts, each vote counts’ and leaders take action for the good of all.
19 courageous Grade 9 students delivered enlightening speeches as they ran for various positions within the Student Council. Each candidate highlighted their key strengths and gave several reasons as to why the students should vote for them. Each candidate spoke with confidence and courage, pitching various ideas to the student body. They discussed everything from food committees and increasing interactions between peers, to providing a platform for students to voice their opinions.
The candidates’ uniqueness was also highlighted through this process, as each candidate took a different approach to their speech. While some fervently argued their opinion to convince the audience of their merit, others used popular culture to create friendly bonds with their peers. Every candidate had their own particular charm, from confidence to humour to audience interaction.
As the speeches came to an end, all the candidates were congratulated and wished the best by the Middle School Deputy Principal and MYP Coordinator, Ms Monika Bajaj, as well as the Head of Well-Being, Dr Pathma Naidu. The outgoing Student Council (2018-19) was also felicitated for their leadership and hard work in the past year. From there, students proceeded to their form rooms for an enthusiastic digital voting session, where frantic discussions and last-minute campaigning ensued.
We eagerly await the results of our next Student Council and look forward to working with them next year!
