From 2nd - 5th August, a group of 6 students had the privilege of participating in the prestigious Jaipur Debate hosted by Neerja Modi School, and they came back with a plethora of awards. The competition featured over 120 students organized into teams of 3, engaging in Asian Parliamentary style debate. The preliminary rounds kicked off with students spending the day discussing motions such as 'This house would prefer a world with just one language' and 'This house would allow individuals to waive their labor rights in exchange for additional pay.' These topics pushed them to think beyond their comfort zones about significant global issues.
By the end of the 4 rounds spanning two days, team PWSG-A secured the 8th position out of approximately 30 teams and successfully qualified for the semi-quarter finals, while PWSG-B came close to making the cut-off.
The following day was filled with gripping semi-quarter finals and quarter finals, where PWSG-A was eventually eliminated by the highest-ranked team. After a day of intense and enriching debates, the students participated in a lively social event, engaging in exciting activities and dance.
On the third day, students had invaluable learning opportunities as they observed top debaters in the semi-finals and finals. Following a campus tour and a brief meeting with the school director, the closing ceremony took place. In front of an audience comprising 40 junior and senior teams from all over India, Pathways students earned a total of 6 medals and 1 trophy for their outstanding performance as the best speakers in various rounds.
In summary, the students returned with cherished memories of their invaluable experience, new friendships, profound learning, and a fresh perspective on a range of global issues.
