The History students of Grade 11 accompanied by Pre-Term Students and 3 Faculty Members set off to visit Old Delhi on the 2nd of May to explore a part of Delhi they had never seen before.
They visited the famous historical monument, Red Fort (Lal Qila) and were taken back to the past to understand the significance of this monument. They walked through small and vibrant markets in the monument which were selling all kinds of traditional trinkets, from jewelry to cloths.
The students strolled through the beautiful, green gardens of the fort and even caught a glimpse of the museum where old antiques from our past battles were showcased. They were also given an insight into possible underground tunnels that connected the fort to Agra, through the Yamuna river.
The journey of the students continued in the jam-packed streets of Chandni Chowk where they enjoyed the famous delicacies of Old Delhi. The group then walked further and reached the Gurudwara Sis Ganj, another monument relevant to the time of the Mughals where they spent some time absorbing the culture and tradition around us and enjoyed eating the ‘prasad’.
After a short re-energizing lunch, the students walked to the Jama Masjid, where they observed the intricate Mughal architecture. that surrounded us. They interacted with locals from the area to gather a wider understanding of their culture and heritage, therefore strengthening our historiographic skills.
The entire trip gave each and every student a greater, in-depth perspective of their past and introducing them to a part of Delhi that most of them had not experienced.
