On Friday the 17th of January, 6 excited and avid students of Grade 10 from Pathways World School, Gurgaon participated in the prestigious ‘Formula 1 in Schools’ North India regional finals at Shiv Nadar School Noida. During these regional finals, 10 teams out of 33 schools were selected to move forward in the competition to the National Round, to be held in Amity University, in the Month of April 2020.

Pathways World School’s team, named “Blitz Falcon 6” was proudly amongst these selected teams. The team “Blitz Falcon 6” comprised of 6 members, Shaurya Panwar, the design engineer, Saranya Gupta, the graphic designer, Yajvin Bhalla, the manufacturing engineer, Shaurya Agarwal, the Sponsorship Manager, Aastik Khandelwal, the Resource Manager and finally, Sarah Sehgal, the Team Manager. The team was mentored and coordinated by Ms. Babita Yadav from Physics faculty of Pathways World School.

Formula 1 in Schools is an international STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, Mathematics) competition for School children, in which groups of 3–6 students must design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools. The cars are powered by CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) cartridges and are attached to a track via a nylon wire.

The students had to design their own cars, portfolios and even find sponsors for their teams for promotion and funding! Their cars were tested on a track for their speed, reaction time and aerodynamics. The students mastered every technical aspect of the competition

The immense amount of hard work by Pathways World School’s students had finally paid off upon being selected for the National Round, after three long months of preparation and rigorous thinking. They not only got a chance to show off their skills but also had the opportunity to meet other budding designers and engineers.
