STEM Competition 2021 conducted by The British International Education Association (BIEA) was based on the theme “Re(pack) to Restore the World” wherein participants had to think of innovative ideas and modern technology to devise new and sustainable ways of packaging food to reduce the amount of plastic waste.

The 2021 competition theme reflected two major concepts: Technological innovation, and the replacement of plastic packaging.

Pathways World School, Gurgaon participated in the coveted competition under the age category of 9-11 years and bagged the ‘Champion Award’. Our students from previous batch of PYP5, Anshuman Nagpal, Mayra Tomar and Manraj Singh applied their learning and critical thinking skills to empathize with this burning global issue and devised innovative and sustainable options which can reform food packaging in all possible ways.

The project was done during the Summer Break under the guidance of the Mentors, Ms. Mimi Brown and Ms. Digantika Sarkar. The challenge was tackled by the students through and the elaborate process of creating prototypes, which were durable, flexible, waterproof, and hygienic.  The prototypes were tested under given conditions before submitting a detailed report of their learning journey. The participants presented their work to a panel of eminent judges in the field of STEM learning across the globe.

Their efforts and the presentation were well-received and applauded by everyone on the judging committee. Witnessing our young learners challenge their ideas, innovating as well as learning on a global platform and winning accolades for their Alma Mater was indeed a moment to cherish.
