TOK Conference 2018 October 13Pathways World School, Gurgaon
On the eventful day of 12th October 2018, Takshashila was abuzz with activities, as the students of PWS, busied themselves in perfecting the minutest of details, that would go into making the TOK Conference 2018 a successful student-led event.
The delegates arrived with smiles spread wide across their faces, excited to be part of an intellectually invigorating conference like this. On their arrival, some were taken for a tour of the school, while some decided to relax and taste the delectable cuisine in the Pathways Cafeteria.
As the evening descended upon the gathering, it was time to begin the 'Cultural Evening.' The highly energetic hosts of the evening, Rishit Jain and Parinita Bali welcomed the School Director, Dr. Sarvesh Naidu and the Senior School principal Ms. Manjula Shenoi.
The programme commenced with a soulful duet, by Mihir Ahuja and Manu Atri of Grade 12, setting the perfect, relaxed tone for the evening. This was immediately followed by an enthusiastic dance performed by selective students from Grades 10, 11 and 12 on the patriotic song 'Chak De,' which set the tone for the following activity: "Make Your Own Culture." Each workshop leader, along with their respective groups, was expected to present in a creative way their understanding of the concept of culture and its relation knowledge.
Each group that presented their own interpretation of culture in their unique way. While some chose to dance, some others chose to perform a skit or simulate a classroom discussion on the topic. Most of them focused on the importance and versatility of language, while one group talked about an open community, through an anthem, where the LGBTQ were accepted without any prejudice.
Towards the end, the emcees decided to organize a popcorn debate, where delegates volunteered to participate in "Turncoat Debating," on various topics like the future of AI and whether or not countries should exist. Afterwards, the delegates moved to the cafeteria for dinner. All in all, this evening was the perfect beginning for invigorating sessions to follow the next morning.
