Head of Department & Teacher – Music (IB) Back

About The Role

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Head of Department & Teacher- Music to lead the Music department across IB programmes (PYP/MYP/DP). The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with IB curriculum design, teaching, and assessment, combined with exceptional musical expertise. This leadership role requires guiding a team of music educators, developing a comprehensive music programme, and fostering creativity, technical skills, and global musical appreciation in students.

Brief Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management • Lead, mentor, and manage the Music department across IB programmes. • Develop and implement a vertically aligned IB Music curriculum (PYP/MYP/DP). • Ensure compliance with IB philosophy, standards, and assessment frameworks. • Oversee departmental planning, assessment moderation, and documentation. • Facilitate professional development and IB-specific training for department staff. • Manage departmental resources, instruments, studio facilities, and budget. • Drive innovation in music teaching, including integration of digital and contemporary music practices. Teaching & Learning • Deliver high-quality IB Music instruction across PYP, MYP, and DP programmes. • Teach music theory, performance (vocal and instrumental), composition, and appreciation. • Train students in choir, ensembles, and individual performance. • Guide students in DP Internal Assessments, portfolio preparation, and performances. • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning in music. • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Collaboration & Contribution • Collaborate with homeroom teachers and other specialist departments for cross-curricular integration. • Lead musical productions, concerts, and school-wide performances. • Participate in IB workshops, professional development, and school leadership initiatives. • Promote student engagement in music competitions, festivals, and community outreach programs.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of IB PYP, MYP, and DP Music curriculum and assessment practices. • Proficiency in music theory, performance (vocal and instrumental), composition, and conducting. • Leadership and mentoring experience in a school setting. • Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic planning skills. • Ability to integrate technology and contemporary music practices into teaching. • Experience in curriculum design, assessment moderation, and academic quality assurance. Eligibility Criteria • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Music or Performing Arts (Mandatory). • Minimum 10–15 years of teaching experience, with substantial experience in IB curriculum delivery. • Recognized music qualifications or certifications required (ABRSM, Trinity, or equivalent). • Proven leadership experience as HOD or equivalent role in an IB school. • Experience guiding students through IB Internal Assessments, portfolios, and performances. • Ability to teach vocals, piano, and at least one additional instrument preferred.
